OUR first Christmas tree!

This is Ryan and my first holiday living together. I am a huge holiday freak so of course we HAD to get a tree the weekend following Thanksgiving.

Ooooohhh speaking of Thanksgiving, I’m going to digress for a moment. After much convincing, we ended up in Palm Desert at the Pitt’s home away from home. The weather was perfect, the food was great, and my fave was the introduction of our families. My grandparents drove down from Desert Center to meet the Stanley, Pitt, Woodall, and Gainards. They were welcomed with smiles and hugs. Everyone got along beautifully! It was the perfect Thanksgiving. The following day they all played golf while Kathleen, Scott, Nikki, and I lounged at the pool at the Riveria.

Ok, back to the tree! Ryan and I snagged a fine looking Douglas Fir. We put it up and put on the lights… I know typical tree stuff.

But the best part was putting on the ornaments. My grandma Reva passed last year (October 2010). She made ornaments called snow babies. Every year I’d get a new set. Even Ryan has his own with his name and date on the bottom. I also received these two Christmas porcelain dolls.

Also, Ryan and I started a tradition to get an ornament on every trip. We’ve never been able to put them up before. It was a lot of fun finding forgotten ornaments and reminiscing. The apple is from our recent trip to Oak Glen when we picked up our apples for our wedding apple pies.

I love that our tree is mix and match of meaningful ornaments. I love it!!! Ryan keeps reading me bc I keep glancing at it and smiling. *sigh

Got my wedding shoes!!!!

Hooray!!!! My dress is very plain Jane. I wanted some whimsical, unique, funky, thick heeled, adorable, comfortable, and rad shoes. Tall order! Oak Canyon is uneven dirt so I couldn’t wear stilettos. But I needed some sort of heel bc Ry is so tall. I’ve been looking and looking and no shoe seemed to fit. Well I was looking at Modcloth.com (where Lindsey bought her bridesmaid dress) for some unique ideas for the other girls. I saw the shoes that fit exactly what I was searching for. They were about the same price as my wedding dress but I didn’t care. These were them!!’ I didn’t have a “this is my dress! I feel like a bride!!” moment. But when I saw these shoes I was as giddy as a fat kid in an ice cream shop (taken from Miko). But sadly they didn’t have my size. It took me all afternoon but I finally tracked down my size. And for less money, thank you very much! I got them for a steal of $106.
My fave part are the soles. I absolutely LUB them. The crystal heel is pretty sweet too! They arrived and the packaging felt special and unique. This was my special purchase moment. Check out these bad boys!

Asking the ladies

I wanted to ask my bridesmaids in a silly but simple way. I remembered in Elementary school when boys would ask you out by note and ask you to check yes or no. That was my inspiration! I sent out a card that went with our lovebird theme. Inside I had a tag that I stamped and self address to come back to me. I also put in a embroider handkerchief.
I loved getting the responses. Each girl added something to make it their own.

Apple peeling party

Hooray!!! It’s apple season. Ryan’s grandma suggested we get the apples for the apple pies at Oak Glen.
Saturday Ryan, Kathleen, and I headed up to get the apples. We had amazing apple fritters, apples turnovers, and apple cider. We went through the boxes of seconds and got the best 2 bushels we could find. It was super cold and there was snow on the ground. It felt like winter and was really special.
On the way home we stopped at Oak Canyon Nature Center so we could show Kathleen our wedding venue. She was gushing over it just like I did the first time I went there. I gave her a card and asked her to be a bridesmaid. She’s been so loving and supportive through this whole process knowing she wasn’t in the bridal party. Her character really shines and I can’t imagine not having her be a part of it.

Sunday I threw an apple peeling party. Kathleen, Ashley, Lindsey, Jackie, Kim, Desiree, and Carina all came from LA in the rain to play. We cored, peeled, sliced, and bagged nearly 100 pounds of apples. I think we laughed for 6 hours straight. The awesome champagne punch Kathleen made may have helped with that. 😉
We wore aprons that made for some cute pictures. We ate pizza from Big Belly Deli and watched “Bridesmaids”. Pretty sure the whole neighborhood heard our laughs. It was a great day and I really appreciate and know that I have some amazing friends!!! I feel so blessed!
