Hair and make up trials

Katie Reece is my awesome hair dresser who has been super patient and giving with her time to try different hair styles for my wedding.
I bought a few hair accessories and couldn’t decide what direction to go with.
This was the favorite from our first session:

Then I found some easy hair styles to try from Pinterest. This is what I tried:

Then I started thinking that my head piece was too “costume” and didn’t go with the whimsical ceremony. So I decided that I would ask Katie to try a more whimsical style with a small hair accessory. I may still use my awesome head piece for the reception/dancing portion at our wedding. We tried multiple styles and age came up with the design below.

I loved this look!!!

We have a winner!! Katie is going to keep practicing every time she colors my hair to perfect it in the next 3 months.
On to the make up. I really fought the idea of getting my make up done. I do my make up every day. Why do I need to pay to have someone else do it!? Katie talked me into it because she is also engaged and said that day you get to be pampered. I got many referrals and they were all out of my budget. Finally I texted Brittany and asked if she’d do for $100 and she said yes. I met her at the Mac counter at Nordstrom and loved her instantly. She is super funny and willing to take the time to get it right and make you happy. She asked if I had a time limit bc she wanted to try a bunch of different looks. We were there for hours and I completely changed my mind about using a make up artist. She did an awesome job and I felt beautiful.

Pre honeymoon backpacking training (phew that was long)

We are going to need to do quite a bit of backpacking to get ready for our New Zealand honeymoon. This was our first “training” weekend.

We went to Spruce Grove in the Angeles Forest. It was great weather and not too crowded. We got to try Ryan’s newest DIY project, the trekking pole chair. We met a nice old guy that lived out there and talked with him on a bit of our hike. One thing I would change would to bring more food. I got “hangry” whilst skipping lunch for some trail mix. Hungry camper=unhappy camper.

Squeaky clean

I’ve been wanting to try some new DIY projects. I came across recipes for home made detergents and soaps.

I loved the IDE of being able to make a bulk amount for cheap and choosing whatever scent I fancied. The bloggers are fibbers when they say you can find all of the ingredients at your local grocery store. I went to Von’s, Ralphs, Trader Joes, Sprouts, CVS, GNC,Stater Bros, 2 different Targets, and even dreadful Wal Mart.
The trickiest items were citric acid and liquid glycerin. But now I have a surplus of these for my next round. Can’t wait to try them!
These are the ingredients for the laundry detergent. I chose peppermint scent from Dr Brommer’s soap so our clothes would smell so fresh and so clean clean! 😉

Next I made the dishwasher detergent. I chose to use citric avid instead of the suggested lemonade packets do we didn’t stain the dishwasher.

Lastly, I made hand soap. A gallon of hand soap in fact. That rill last a year and cost about 6 bucks to make. I used Dr Brommer’s almond soap for this one. So delicious smelling!!!
