Ryan’s Bachelor Party

One of the many reasons I love Ryan is because he is not your average guy. He did not want strippers, Vegas, “last fling before the ring”, or the typical guy bachelor party. In fact he was pretty mellow about even having one. Obar thought it would be nice to just have Ryan’s bridal party and their significant others come to our house in Newport and have a beach day, dinner, and a couple drinks.

The gang started off by grabbing lunch at Big Belly Deli. Then we all headed to the beach. We got to use some of the games we bought for the wedding…you know, break them in. We were concerned bc it was dark and cold all morning. But within a half hour of everyone arriving the sun peaked out and it turned out to be a nice day. Hooray!

Next stop, Nick’s Restorante in Costa Mesa. That’s Ryan and my fave pizza joint. I can’t believe how much tapenade, pizza, and pasta out table put away. And we had leftovers! Which I may or may not have eaten for breakfast čśë I stink and forgot to get a group photo. But I did get Jeff still going after the pizza once we put it in a to go box. ha ha

After we got our carb strength we went to The Boulevard for some shuffle board and drinks. We popped into Goathill Tavern were Scotty finally convinced me to take a shot. As you can see, I’m not a happy camper.

We ended the night with a slumber party at our house with Scotty, Dana, Miko, Caitlyn and of course us. It was a fun day and it was great to get Ry’s bridal party together and introduced.

I really wanted to make a cool sign for our wedding. Ryan and I went to home depot and got wood and nails and then headed over to Joanne’s for yarn. Check it out!

This was a great week. Kathleen is such a thoughtful lady. She sent me a beautifully wrapped present. What girl doesn’t like a pretty present. What was even better was what was inside. Awww so happy!

Asking the ladies

I wanted to ask my bridesmaids in a silly but simple way. I remembered in Elementary school when boys would ask you out by note and ask you to check yes or no. That was my inspiration! I sent out a card that went with our lovebird theme. Inside I had a tag that I stamped and self address to come back to me. I also put in a embroider handkerchief.
I loved getting the responses. Each girl added something to make it their own.

Apple peeling party

Hooray!!! It’s apple season. Ryan’s grandma suggested we get the apples for the apple pies at Oak Glen.
Saturday Ryan, Kathleen, and I headed up to get the apples. We had amazing apple fritters, apples turnovers, and apple cider. We went through the boxes of seconds and got the best 2 bushels we could find. It was super cold and there was snow on the ground. It felt like winter and was really special.
On the way home we stopped at Oak Canyon Nature Center so we could show Kathleen our wedding venue. She was gushing over it just like I did the first time I went there. I gave her a card and asked her to be a bridesmaid. She’s been so loving and supportive through this whole process knowing she wasn’t in the bridal party. Her character really shines and I can’t imagine not having her be a part of it.

Sunday I threw an apple peeling party. Kathleen, Ashley, Lindsey, Jackie, Kim, Desiree, and Carina all came from LA in the rain to play. We cored, peeled, sliced, and bagged nearly 100 pounds of apples. I think we laughed for 6 hours straight. The awesome champagne punch Kathleen made may have helped with that. čśë
We wore aprons that made for some cute pictures. We ate pizza from Big Belly Deli and watched “Bridesmaids”. Pretty sure the whole neighborhood heard our laughs. It was a great day and I really appreciate and know that I have some amazing friends!!! I feel so blessed!

Moab rafting trip with Kimmy

Kim Jones is an amazing friend and one of the beautiful ladies in my bridal party. She and I have gone to Utah several times to visit my family and friends. My step dad Nelson offered to buy my flight to Utah for my birthday in August. Nelson adores Kim and offered to have her come too. Kim works, is finishing her masters, and volunteers at a helpline. I was worried she wouldn’t be able to take off a week but she made it work. We knew it would likely be our last Utah adventure before I get married.
We ratted and camped along the Colorado river with my family. We ate well thanks to Nelson Jr and his friends. We played bocce ball with kids, body floated down rapids, and got eaten up by Mosquitos.
We had an absolute blast on the rafting trip. The highlight of the trip was climbing to the top of a rock (mini mountain) the last night and watching the stars and lightning and talking.

It was a great weekend with one of my besties and I’m so happy she’s a part of my life and bridal party.

Our besties got engaged!
June 7, 2011, 3:28 am

Miko planned a Memorial weekend trip to Sequoia National Park. We had a weekend of hiking planned and we couldn’t wait! Caitlyn called me a few days before and told me that she planned to propose to Miko. I could not contain myself. I was so excited knowing how surprised and happy Miko was going to be.

The first day we got there we were surprised to see snow on the ground. It was colder than we expected but we decided to make the best of it and hike to the falls. It was so beautiful. I kept wondering when Caitlyn was gonna pop the question. I just couldn’t stand it.

That night we got dumped on by snow. We literally woke up to everything covered in snow. You can imagine how cold that is in a tent. It got so bad that roads to leave were closed and we were stuck up there!!! We were unprepared, cold, and a bit concerned. But we didn’t let that dampen our spirits. I thought that Caitlyn’s proposal wasn’t going to happen. Buuuuut Caitlyn bit the bullet and decided to go forward.

Caitlyn told us that they were going for a walk and that was the cue that she was going to propose. I put up the banners I made and we got the champagne ready. The sun even came out for a few minutes during their special moment. That could not have been planned better!

The girls came back and we all popped the champage and it was time to celebrate! Just then the snow storm came back. 8 of us crammed into our tent to play card games, drink, and laugh. This was not the weekend we planned but it was a great time amd something we will never forget. I’m so happy we were there to share this experience with our besties. I’m so excited to be engaged at the same time as Miko. We are going to have so much fun planning over the next year!
