On April 28, 2012 Kathleen Selke (my amazing soon to be sister-in-law), fabulous Aunt Cheryl, and wonderful Aunt Eileen hosted my bridal shower at the Selke residence in Playa Vista. Mama Stanley, Whitney, and Noelle used their creative skills to help them decorate and make the home stunning. I did not want a bridal shower because I was so worried that it seemed selfish and that my friends would think it was lame and feel obligated to spend more money on a present. I’d never been to one before but had an idea in my head. I am so happy that they convinced me to have one. It was such a fun day full of love and laughs.

Kathleen did a fantastic job with the decorations. She used our colors of gray and yellow for the DIY decorations. She really captured the vintage rustic feeling we were going for. Aunt Eileen went to the LA flower mart to get the whimsical flowers. They were exactly what I had in mind. Whitney used her photog skills to capture it all.

I couldn’t help but cry when I saw all the hard work that went into making me feel special.

The food was absolutely incredible. Kathleen had a caterer bring in the delicious finger foods. He brought his 2 cute sons to drop off the food. They were so excited to get a cupcake to go. Aunt Cheryl had the cupcakes made by a friend. They were huge and so nummy.

The games were a blast!

I was so thankful for all the generous gifts everybody brought.

Then Aunt Carol read back everything I said while opening gifts as “things I will say to Ryan the night of our wedding”. I was crying with laughter and had a hard time breathing. So I was a bit embarrassed. ha

It was an amazing day and so much fun! I was so grateful to have Ryan’s family and my friends in one place and everyone meshed well and I had zero stress. It was so fantastic!

Squeaky clean

I’ve been wanting to try some new DIY projects. I came across recipes for home made detergents and soaps.

I loved the IDE of being able to make a bulk amount for cheap and choosing whatever scent I fancied. The bloggers are fibbers when they say you can find all of the ingredients at your local grocery store. I went to Von’s, Ralphs, Trader Joes, Sprouts, CVS, GNC,Stater Bros, 2 different Targets, and even dreadful Wal Mart.
The trickiest items were citric acid and liquid glycerin. But now I have a surplus of these for my next round. Can’t wait to try them!
These are the ingredients for the laundry detergent. I chose peppermint scent from Dr Brommer’s soap so our clothes would smell so fresh and so clean clean! 😉

Next I made the dishwasher detergent. I chose to use citric avid instead of the suggested lemonade packets do we didn’t stain the dishwasher.

Lastly, I made hand soap. A gallon of hand soap in fact. That rill last a year and cost about 6 bucks to make. I used Dr Brommer’s almond soap for this one. So delicious smelling!!!

Ryan is the sweetest. Happy birthday to me

Ryan had been traveling for a month with American Idol and I was really missing him. He flew home the day before my birthday. That was a great gift in itself.
I had an awesome day at work. Everybody showed me a lot of love at work so I was already having a fabulous day and was in an awesome mood. 🙂
I got home from work on my bday and Ryan decorated the garage with streamers, balloons, and a piñata filled with dark chocolate Reeses peanut butter cups. Nom nom. I went in our apartment and he decorated with 50 balloons, flowers, streamers, he made home made brownies with Reeses peanut butter chips, chocolate covered strawberries, and got me a super funny cute card.
We headed out to our favorite restaurant in Long Beach: Open Sesame. It was a long drive in traffic and I started getting hAngry. Ughhhh I am like a toddler when sleepy or hungry. It Took over an hour to get there and then there was a 40 minute wait. Meh meh meh. Ryan is so sweet and took me shopping to kill the time. I’ve been on a strict no shopping plan since October to pay off my credit card debt so I was especially happy!!! *just made my last payment to get a zero balance!!!! Woohoo
It ended up being such a wonderful night. I’m so lucky to have him!!!

Our besties got engaged!

Miko planned a Memorial weekend trip to Sequoia National Park. We had a weekend of hiking planned and we couldn’t wait! Caitlyn called me a few days before and told me that she planned to propose to Miko. I could not contain myself. I was so excited knowing how surprised and happy Miko was going to be.

The first day we got there we were surprised to see snow on the ground. It was colder than we expected but we decided to make the best of it and hike to the falls. It was so beautiful. I kept wondering when Caitlyn was gonna pop the question. I just couldn’t stand it.

That night we got dumped on by snow. We literally woke up to everything covered in snow. You can imagine how cold that is in a tent. It got so bad that roads to leave were closed and we were stuck up there!!! We were unprepared, cold, and a bit concerned. But we didn’t let that dampen our spirits. I thought that Caitlyn’s proposal wasn’t going to happen. Buuuuut Caitlyn bit the bullet and decided to go forward.

Caitlyn told us that they were going for a walk and that was the cue that she was going to propose. I put up the banners I made and we got the champagne ready. The sun even came out for a few minutes during their special moment. That could not have been planned better!

The girls came back and we all popped the champage and it was time to celebrate! Just then the snow storm came back. 8 of us crammed into our tent to play card games, drink, and laugh. This was not the weekend we planned but it was a great time amd something we will never forget. I’m so happy we were there to share this experience with our besties. I’m so excited to be engaged at the same time as Miko. We are going to have so much fun planning over the next year!
